Jonathan Wilson has recently finished filming a documentary in Argentina. Featuring scenes in Puerto Madryn and Buenos Aires, it traces River Plate's rise from relegation in 2011 through two Copa Libertadores successes to the present day as they stand with a proudly modern stadium and the highest average attendance in the world.
He has been a talking head on a range of documentaries, including Messi (BBC), Lionel Messi: Destiny (BBC), Once in a Lifetime: Argentina (Copa 90), Croatia: Defining a Nation (Fifa), and Italia 90: Four Weeks that Changed the World.
Podcasts
Jonathan Wilson is one of the seven voices who launched the Libero podcast in 2025. He is also, with Rob Draper, one of the two presenters of the football history podcast It Was What It Was.
Since 2008, he has been a regular guest on the Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, which has been named Podcast of the Year 14 times at the FSA Awards. In 2023, he edited the Football Weekly book.
He is often to be heard on the Second Captains, Indo Sport and Off the Ball podcasts in Ireland.

In 2025, Wilson began a series of animations in association with Tifo, entitled The Entire History of Football.
He also devised, scripted, and voiced the animated film Keepers for A Game of Three Halves.
